Account & Data Deletion
Last updated: 2 September 2026
In short: you can delete your PairNook account and its
associated data at any time, right from the app — or by emailing us if you
can no longer access the app. Deletion is permanent.
Delete your account from the app
- Open PairNook and go to the Us tab.
- Tap the gear icon at the top to open Settings.
- Scroll to Account & safety and choose
Delete account.
- Confirm when prompted. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.
Deletion runs immediately — there is no waiting period and no way to cancel
it afterwards. You are signed out on your devices. You can do the same from the
web app at web.pairnook.com.
Delete your account without the app
If you can't access the app — for example, you've removed it from your
device or lost access to your account — you can still request deletion:
- Email support@pairnook.com
from the email address associated with your account, with the subject
“Account deletion request.”
- We'll verify by replying to the email address on the account, so please
send the request from that address. We complete verified deletion requests
within 30 days, and usually much sooner.
- We'll confirm by email once your account and associated data have been deleted.
What gets deleted
Deleting your account also deletes the couple's shared data — for
both of you. PairNook is built for exactly two people, so a couple
cannot continue with one partner gone. Either of you can do this alone, and
it does not need the other's agreement. Your partner keeps their own
account, their sign-in, and anything already saved on their devices — but
their copy of the shared data on our servers goes with yours.
When your account is deleted, we remove:
- Your account record, including your email address and password hash.
- Your display name and avatar.
- Your push notification tokens, device records, and app-version telemetry.
- Your couple linkage to your partner.
- Your messaging identity. Deleting your account
deactivates and erases it: you are signed out everywhere, removed from your
shared room, and your messaging profile is erased. The messages and media
themselves are end-to-end encrypted — we have never been able to read them —
and the remaining ciphertext ages out with our storage and backup cycles
rather than being individually purged at the moment of deletion. Once your
account and its keys are gone, nothing can decrypt it, including us.
- Everything you and your partner made together in PairNook:
to-dos, chores, groceries, reminders, notes, calendar entries and important
dates, date plans, expenses and budgets, shared links and your watchlist,
travel lists, the metadata records for your shared photos, game history,
daily answers, journal keys, and the completion and reminder history behind
them. The Life items among these are stored readable on our servers
by design — see the Privacy Policy — and are
removed during deletion.
- Your location-sharing and SOS records.
- Your encrypted key backup and the escrowed copy of your recovery key.
- Assistant-request metadata associated with your account.
Disconnecting instead of deleting
Disconnect partner ends the couple without deleting either
account. It also deletes the couple's shared server-side data, for both of
you, and either partner can do it alone. You can pair with someone again
afterwards.
What may be retained, and for how long
Deletion takes effect immediately, and backups and copies are purged on our
regular backup cycle (typically within 30 days). We may retain a minimal set
of records for longer where required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention
purposes — for example, to comply with a legal obligation. Any such records
are kept only as long as necessary and then deleted.
Note that content shared with your partner's device may continue to exist
on their device or account until they delete it, since each person
holds their own copy of an end-to-end encrypted conversation.
